About

The Library Operations are fully automated i.e. Circulation Section, Cataloguing Section using, with SOUL 2.0 ILMS developed by INFLIBINET, Ahmedabad. The reading materials are being classified Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme (23rd edition) The Faculty, Non-Teaching Staff, and Students of MITS College are issued a single barcode membership cum Library Identity card. The user of the Library can use the same identity card for borrowing books.

Central Library is located in the back side of round block of the Campus and it can accommodate more than 350 students/users at a time. The collection of books (print) is 60,000 Volumes including Book-Bank Books, subscribes 147 Print Journals for all the disciplines. We have also access to 15,410 online Journals and 1,38,821 E-Books. The total area is 958 sq. mtrs.

The library started its existence in 1998. The library with its modern collection of knowledge resources and innovative information services fills an essentials role of students, faculty and the surrounding community in their intellectual pursuits. The library has collection of 61,086 volumes of books with 9,882 titles, 587 Back Volumes, 3382 CD’s and DVD’s. The library subscribes to leading National/ International journals, e-resources pertaining to Engineering & Management Sciences which includes 15,410 full text e-journals, IEEE-169, Springer - 786, ASME - 29, J-Gate - 4285, DELNET - 929, N list - 6328.Ebsco Management collections-1510.

The Library has developed a state of the art digital Library with Wi-Fi Connectivity and Automated all Services through web based library Information Management Software SOUL 2.0.0.11 The Library has built in area of 1626 Sqft with the 300 seating capacity along with the state of art infrastructure facilities. The Library is an extremely important primary support services provided by MITS. The Library facilities are indispensable services in support of imparting acquiring competent and up to date professional knowledge. The basic necessity has been recognized, and the methodology of developing and using the library associated services is established in this library. Mainly open access, lending of books, reference service, WEB OPAC, SC-ST book bank scheme, Reprographic facility, user orientation programme, inter library loan facilities. Its has also developed a full-fledged digital library equipped necessary modern equipment. In order to provide various digital mode library services. The digital library facilitated with 31 computers the Broad band service with 84 mbps speed. Users can access through intranet the e-resources and e-learning courses.

To facilitate the library services 9 committed library staff are always ready to serve the user community. The library conducts National level workshops, Conferences, Training program and Book exhibition etc.

Overview

The Library is highly frequented by the students and the staff. Special care is taken to educate and encourage its users on the importance of reading. Text books are available on a reasonable student- book ratio. Moreover, special care has been taken to develop a digital library. All operations are automated using Soul Software 2.0 version from UGC-INFLIBNET, Ahmedabad.

The Library has a considerable number of staff, and its services are highly satisfactory.

STAFF:

A) The library is handled by a Librarian, assisted by: Two Assistant Librarians, One Library Assistant, One Computer Operator, One Record Assistant, and four Attendants.

B) Library staff is encouraged to participate in seminars, workshops, training programs, and conferences. (Annexure A)

REPROGRAPHY FACILITY:

Reprography facility is available for Library purposes at a subsidized rate (0.60np per page).

DELNET:

Library is part of the “DEVELOPING LIBRARY NETWORK (DELNET)”. Whenever a book is not available in the library, the document is obtained from DELNET through Inter Library Loan (ILL).

BOOK BANK COLLECTION:

Book Bank accounts for a seizable number of books. The S.C. and S.T. students are eligible to borrow from this collection. This extra facility has been found to be of immense value.

DEPARTMENTAL LIBRARIES:

Besides the central library, each department maintains a small collection consisting of frequently used materials by staff and students.

  • Mr. L. Husman & Mr. J. Bharat Kumar attended One-Day National Workshop on “DELNET: Resources, Services & Facilities” organised by JSS Academy of Technical Education, Bangalore on 7th May 2013.

  • Mr. L. Husman & Mr. J. Bharat Kumar attended Participated in TWO DAY NATIONAL LEVEL WORKSHOP ON “LIBRARY & AUTOMATION " Organized by Sree Vidyanikethan Engineering College, Sree Sainath Nagar, Tirupathi - 517102, A. P. on 19th - 20th January 2013.
